family versus daycare
Many parents with close family-ties are surrounded by relatives that are proactive in helping each other out with about any family matter. This includes watching over your children while you are away for work. Parents that have close relationships with their relatives would be lucky if any one of their family members can volunteer to help take care of their child. Most parents would think that this is a better option than letting a stranger take care of their children. Parents are assured that someone that truly loves and cares for their children would be the one taking care of them. Your child does not need to adapt as well to a new environment as they will be familiar with a relative. Furthermore, this option is cheaper than looking for a daycare for your child and parents can feel free to constantly contact them.
Despite the many benefits of having your relative take care of your child, there are also problems that parents may encounter when this happens. Relationships with your relative aren’t always rosy and there may be conflict regarding their style of taking care of your child or their style of teaching them. The power struggle may be more stressful when the relative involved is a grandparent or older aunt of your child. Relatives may also tend to spoil your child with food that they are not supposed to be eating or habits they like that need to be controlled. Rules may be harder to enforce with letting relative take care of your child. When these situations take place, parents may want to think twice about whether to continue your child’s supervision with a relative or go to daycare instead.
